Dr. Swagata Banik is dean of graduate studies & research as well as professor of public health and prevention science. He also serves as the director for the Center for Health Disparities Research and Education at BW. Banik teaches introduction to public health, global health, health and social justice and urban health and disparities. Banik’s research examines HIV/STI prevention and care needs among racial/ethnic, sexual and gender minorities nationally as well as internationally. Emilia Lombardi

Dr. Emilia Lombardi is chair and associate professor in BW’s public health and prevention science department. She has a doctorate in medical sociology and has been involved in HIV prevention research and examining health disparities among racial and ethnic, sexual and gender minorities for approximately 15 years. Lombardi’s work examines the relationship between stigma and discrimination, social networks, substance use and HIV risk behaviors. Read more …

Dr. Raed Ba Helah is an epidemiologist teaching both undergraduate and graduate courses in public health with a focus on current public health issues of relevance to the nation’s health and globally. He teaches a variety of courses including Epidemiology, Introduction to Public Health, Biological Basis of Population’s Health, Advanced Research Methods, and SAS Data Analysis. As a Fulbright Scholar (2009-2011), Dr. Ba Helah has extensive expertise in global health that he brings to the classroom. Read more …

Laura Hopkins

Dr. Hopkins is a registered and licensed dietitian nutritionist in the state of Ohio and is a public health nutritionist by training. She teaches undergraduate- and graduate-level courses, including global health, prevention of chronic disease, and theories and practices in health promotion.
