Educational Leadership Programs

Overview

Our license and leadership programs help explore theories and practices that promote the success of all students in today’s diverse school environments. Learn the elements of developing a school vision, high standards of learning, and continual improvement that fosters comprehensive development for those within your school district. Internships within school systems provide experiential learning that prepares future leaders for success from day one. 

In less than two years, an educator can complete the coursework to qualify for an additional credential for their license.

MAEd in School Leadership

32 Semester Hours
The MAEd in school leadership is designed for teachers who are seeking the principal’s license. It is equally relevant for teachers who aspire to work within a school system on curriculum design, development and reform. Program curriculum is based upon principal standards established by the Ohio Department of Education (ODE) and the National Educational Leadership Preparation (NELP) Program. • Program Features

  • Explore leadership theories and practices that promote the success of all students in today’s diverse school environments.
  • Learn the essential elements to develop a school vision, establish a culture of high standards of learning and implement and evaluate continuous improvement plans.
  • Apply best practices through effective instructional programs and comprehensive professional development plans at the building and district levels.
  • Examine curriculum design, development and reform as influenced and impacted by federal and state standards.
  • Understand the components of a professional code of ethics as they pertain to the legal rights and responsibilities of students, parents, faculty, staff, administration and community members.
  • 32 semester hours lead to the MAEd in school leadership and a building principal license that aligns with the candidate’s licensed teaching grade levels.
  • Students who already hold a master’s degree may complete just the principal curriculum to earn a license.
  • Complete an internship in your school district as you continue in your teaching role.
  • Enroll part time while you continue to teach and complete the master’s program in just two years.

Principal’s License

Teachers that already have a master’s degree and two years of teaching experience can pursue the 23 semester hour Principal’s License program without doing the complete MAEd. The program is two years with 7 courses and two semesters of internships. 

• Qualifications for the Principal’s License in Ohio

  • Successful completion of a principal’s licensure program
  • Passage of state-approved assessment for school leadership
  • Must have earned a master’s degree
  • Must have two years of successful teaching experience under a standard teaching license (or work experience under a professional pupil services license) for the ages and grade levels for which the principal license is sought

Superintendent’s License

15 Semester Hours, Part-Time
The Baldwin Wallace Superintendent’s Licensure Program is designed for principals and administrators who are seeking the superintendent’s license. The program curriculum is based upon superintendent standards established by the Ohio Department of Education (ODE), the Ohio Leadership Development Framework (OLAC), and the National Educational Leadership Preparation Program — District Level (NELP). Courses are offered 100% online.

• Program Features

  • The program is 15 credits (five courses) designed to be completed in one academic year: fall, spring and summer terms.
  • As a part-time program, the curriculum is designed for convenience, and offered 100% online.
  • Complete an internship in your school district as you continue in your role.
  • Upon successful completion of the program and after meeting all Ohio superintendent’s licensure requirements, candidates can apply for the license and have it dated July 1 of the academic year of program completion.

• Prerequisite Qualifications

  • To be accepted into the BW Superintendent’s Licensure Program, candidates must:
  • Have a master’s degree.
  • Have a principal’s license.
  • Currently, serve as a principal or administrator. Exceptions may be considered.

• Qualifications for the Superintendent’s License in Ohio

  • An educator who is interested in applying for a professional administrator license must meet the qualifications outlined below in Ohio administrative rule. Visit the Ohio Department of Education for full details.
  • Earn a master’s degree from an accredited university.
  • Complete an approved preparation program.
  • Receive a recommendation from the dean or head of teacher education at the institution where he or she completed the preparation program.
  • Complete the Ohio Assessment for Educators licensure exam #015, Educational Leadership, prescribed by the State Board of Education.
  • A superintendent must have three years of successful experience in a position as a principal or administrative specialist while holding the respective license.

Advanced Practice Minor

BW’s K-12 MAEd programs provide students with concentrated expertise in a targeted area plus the breadth of knowledge in another area resulting in an advanced practice minor. Minors can be obtained in: Special Education, Technology Integration or Literacy.
