Our Special Education and Literacy programs prepare teachers to fulfill the growing demand for special education and reading teachers. Candidates will bring their professional practice to a new level through programs offered in an online, interactive format to allow you to balance work, life, and family.

MAEd in Mild/Moderate Educational Needs + Intervention K-12 Specialist License
Online or On-Campus | 36 Credit Hours | Finish in 2 Years
BW’s Master of Arts in Education degree in mild/moderate educational needs prepares teachers to fulfill a statewide and national need for intervention specialists able to work in inclusive settings as consultant teachers, small group instructors, resource room teachers, transition service coordinators and co-teachers in an inclusive classroom. Teachers may also add the intervention specialist license (25 semester hours) without completing the entire master’s degree. Enroll on campus or online.

The focus of BW’s online MAEd in Literacy is on evaluation methods and instructional approaches, diagnostic and corrective reading methods, research in literacy education and a survey of literature appropriate for children and adolescents. Teachers will develop strategies to teach literacy more effectively and thereby enhance student achievement.

Teachers may add the PK-12 reading endorsement to an existing license without completing an entire master’s degree. The PK-12 reading endorsement meets Ohio’s Third Grade Reading Guarantee requirements, and positions teachers to assess, plan for and implement programs that increase students’ literacy skills.
